What to do when you see Islamophobic harassment

A Paris film maker and illustrator who goes by Maeril created these graphics so we'll know what to do the next time we see someone harassing someone else for appearing to be Muslim. The strategy is to create a safe space for the person being harassed and ignore completely the person doing the harassment.

And in French.

Please share these graphics with others. You can read more about them in this Buzzfeed article.

Ohhhh, is this helpful!

I have been feeling bad ever since yesterday about a man who was abusive toward a woman in my presence yesterday at the farmer's market. I don't feel I handled it as I should have. At the time I was so shocked I did not know what to do at all. I ended up quietly expressing disapproval of the man and merely smiled at the woman. This post gives me a better idea of what my behavior should be in the presence in public of anyone verbally abusing anyone else (Islamic people, women, gays, lesbians, transgendered people, the elderly, the physically challenged, homeless people asking for money, all the forms of public abuse I have been witnessing increasingly lately, particularly since the rise of obnoxious Trumpism).

I honestly feel a sense of relief about the prospect of encountering this situation now--thanks so much for a strategy, Reg.
